Camp Development
The development of Camp Discovery is divided into two phases. The transition from the present phase to Phase II is based upon the camp having the resources to adequately staff expanding programs and upon the completion of additional buildings which are part of the physical master plan.
In the current phase the camp only has a single recreation therapist. Groups provide their own transportation, food, drinks, chaperones and if camping, their own equipment. Program Partners every year and certain others on some years, sponsor scholarship opportunities for groups so that therapeutic recreation experiences are available to those who may benefit most from field trips regardless of what they can afford. Facility expansion yet to be completed in this phase is a chapel, equestrian facilities and the completion of a conservation plan (wildlife corridor, cross fencing, well, planting of trees, wild grasses, creek overpass, trails with conservation information areas, nature boardwalk and observation kiosk).
In Phase Two, Camp Discovery will expand to include year-round services, more overnight activities and additional types of therapists. As always an effort will be made to identify potential sponsors for scholarships for children who otherwise would not be able to participate. During this phase additional facility expansion includes a kitchen / cafeteria, two cabins for girls, two cabins for boys, an art therapy clinic, a music therapy clinic and one for recreation and drama.
As we look to the future, your support is more important than ever. As Camp Discovery grows, our programs can grow and reach more children. We invite you to join us today.
