Giving to Camp Discovery
A stewardship challenge
The participants in Camp Discovery's program tend to be in unique financial circumstances
- limited personal resources
- have costly counseling or medical expenses and;
- are in programs which also have limited revenues.
Those individuals or groups who are able to compensate Camp Discovery for their service costs are expected to do so. For others who are served by the camp program, to charge our actual cost of operation might deny our services to many people who need them the most.
Good stewardship is the cornerstone of Camp Discovery's financial philosophy. We value providing for the camp's mission with cost efficiency, effectiveness, safety, low-maintenance construction, a non-institutional appearance and excellence.
Camp Discovery operates on a debt free basis.
Give us your time volunteer to help. We maintain a list of larger projects, and a list that changes throughout each month. Additionally we keep a list of potential Eagle Scout Service projects. Organize a fund-raiser. Tell others the story of Camp Discovery. The benefits of volunteering are real, not just for the children and for Camp Discovery, but for the giver. You can make new friends, explore personal interests, uncover hidden talent and skills, have fun, and know that your time is making a difference in the lives of children. Call us!
Donate Give where it's needed most or give for something specific. Give in honor or memory of a person or occasion.
Become a Program Partner and sponsor a child or a group.
Our Program Partners are individuals, businesses, foundations, churches or Sunday School Classes who simply make a predictable commitment and request to be made a Program Partner. The frequency (monthly, quarterly or annually) and duration is specified by the donor. Unless otherwise directed, 90% of each gift is used for program expenses and 10% is invested into the camp's Endowment Fund. (The principle of the endowment is not invaded but the interest it generates can be spent for program costs.) If receiving an invoice is helpful, the Program Partner may designate the amount and the month(s) in which an invoice reminder is desired.
The therapy costs for an entire group varies depending on which county is served (travel for assessments and number of pre-field trip visits to location), what activities are requested, the preparation time etc. The range of the camp's cost for a bus-load of children at present, however is from $800 to $1600. So some Program Partner gifts subsidize an entire group and others collectively buoy the children's payments.
If you would like to become a Program Partner please
1) Indicate so with your gift.
2) Indicate amount and frequency of gifts and;
3) If you wish to receive invoices and return envelopes, please indicate which month(s) in which you desire them.
SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES
1. The Lipscomb Family Foundation
Effective for 2008 through 2010, the Lipscomb Family Foundation has issued a matching dollar for dollar challenge for either:
1) New donors.
2) Lapsed donors (no contribution in the last two years), or;
3) Current donors who increase their giving in the amount of the increase.
So if a pledge is made in 2008 for three years, all three years will be matched treating the gift each year as "new". They will also match non-three year pledges but in subsequent years more "new gifts" must be identified to receive the matched opportunity.
The Lipscomb matching opportunity is for a total of $20,000.00 each year.
2. The Nord Family Foundation
During 2008 and 2009 the Nord Family Foundation is eager to issue a challenge to those who want to see Camp Discovery's efforts continue and expand! Therefore they are willing to match donations which are made toward the camp's operational costs not to exceed $15,000.00!
The Nord Family Foundation has witnessed and participated in the camp's development. They wish to be a catalyst to help the camp's leadership expand the camp's base of support!
If you want to invest in the dedicated efforts made at Camp Discovery for South Carolina children this is a wise and beneficial time to respond!
