Welcome to Camp Discovery
“Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as important to the child as it is to the caterpillar.” - Bradley Miller
Nature-based education and environmental stewardship are vital to the health and well-being of our communities and our world. Camp Discovery partners with school districts, educational institutions, corporate groups and community organizations to provide year-round outdoor recreation, environmental education and experiential learning programs and activities for over 2,000 children and youth each year.
Discovery Days offers experiential activities that support Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science and use the natural environment as a hands-on portal to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Programs are inquiry based and developed to address the new South Carolina Academic Standards for Science.
Learners to Leaders is a project-based learning initiative that provides direct experiences to nurture a sense of community, support academic achievement and promote environmental stewardship. Sessions are customized to be weekly, monthly or quarterly and incorporate school curriculum into an authentic community service project to address a key issue in the students own “backyard”.
Tools for Life utilizes goal-oriented recreational activities to challenge particpants to think and act differently – all while having some laughs and fun. Using team challenges, awareness-expanding activities and experiential learning, participants can focus on developing skills that foster communication, leadership, trust, empowerment and mindfullness.
Family programs at Camp Discovery provide special opportunities for children and families to learn more about stewardship and experience the natural world together! Pre-registration is required unless otherwise noted. Registration is online or by email at email@example.com.
Give Nature A Try (GNAT) programs invite parents and preschoolers out to embark on amazing discoveries in the fields and forests of Camp Discovery! Offered the first Thursday of the month, GNAT programs bring children and adults outdoors to learn together in a safe and supportive setting.
Earth Keepers Summer Camp is all about fun, hands-on learning that gives children ages 6-12 an opportunity to simply "be a kid" while using science in exciting ways to further their knowledge and understanding of the marvels of nature.
