Great Backyard Bird Count
The 21st Annual Great Backyard Bird Count will be held Friday, February 16, through Monday, February 19, 2018. Join us at Camp Discovery on Saturday, February 17th, 2018 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm where bird watchers of all ages can learn and observe as they count birds to create a real-time snapshot of the birds are in our area. Birding can also spark a child's curiosity, interest in the outdoors and engagement with science!
Why count birds? Scientists and bird enthusiasts can learn a lot by knowing where the birds are. Bird populations are dynamic, they are constantly in flux. A project of Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon, the Great Backyard Bird Count is a 'Citizen Science' project and the data collected will help scientists determine how winter weather influences bird populations. Following the count, observers will submit their observations to eBird for compilation and finish off the count with a cup of coffee or cocoa!
Participation is free! Pre-registration opens in early January. Click below or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
